22099VIC Course in First Aid
Management of Anaphylaxis
is for people who care for
children or a person at risk of anaphylaxis.
This Nationally Accredited Training course
provides participants with the crucial
knowledge and skills so that they can
recognise signs of a severe allergic
reaction and provide appropriate first aid
treatment for anaphylaxis. You will also
learn how to develop and implement
strategies to prevent allergic and
anaphylactic reactions.
There are two units of competency in this
course:
VU20296 Provide first aid management of
severe allergic reaction and anaphylaxis
VU20297 Develop risk
minimisation and management strategies for
allergic reaction and anaphylaxis
This course is for people who care for a
person at risk of anaphylaxis. The course
will help you gain knowledge and skills in
the area of:

adrenaline auto injecting device, such
as an EpiPen or Anapen

Duration
and Validity
The course runs for 3 – 3.5
hours and is valid for 3 years. When you are
deemed competent you will gain a Statement of Attainment
in First Aid
Management of Anaphylaxis. This will be
based on a number of assessment tasks
conducted during the training session.
22099VIC First Aid Management
of Anaphylaxis meets the requirements of
Ministerial Order 90 and the Victorian
Children’s Services Regulations regarding
‘Anaphylaxis Training’ required for all
school and children’s services staff that
have a child at risk of anaphylaxis in their
care.

A Protocol Development
Program
Program Overview
This program is ideal for school staff who
manage and care for students at risk of
anaphylaxis, but who already have knowledge
and skills in the first aid management of
anaphylaxis.
This program has been specifically designed
to assist school staff and teachers with the
obstacles and challenges of managing day to
day routines with children at risk of
anaphylaxis in the school environment.
The focus of the program is assisting your
school to develop workable protocols and policies for your
Anaphylaxis
Management Policy. This will make your
school environment safer for allergic
children and enhance your staff’s ability to
manage those children at risk. Every
Victorian school is mandated to have an
Anaphylaxis Management Policy if they have a
child diagnosed at risk of anaphylaxis in
their school (DEECD Policy - Ministerial
Order 90).
The key to Anaphylaxis accident prevention

*There are no pre-requisites for this
program however it would be advantageous if
you have already completed the 22099VIC
First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis or
equivalent. It is also recommended that
participants have good English, literacy and
numeracy skills.

The program runs for a minimum of 2.hrs.

Certificate of Attendance for
the Anaphylaxis & Allergies Management in
Schools Program
issued by KidsAlert.

also covers the competency for unit VU20297
